When and why did you start modeling?
I started modeling at the age of 4. At around age 12 when I realized it wasn't going to be a straight size model, I stopped. I didn't know anything about the plus industry. I focused on acting and moved to NYC to get my MFA at the actors studio. After graduation I did several shows, but this one day I had a train wreck of an audition - something I should have nailed. So I said ok, obviously I'm not supposed to be doing this, what am I supposed to do. Modeling came up, so I submitted to the top 10 agencies that have plus divisions, and signed with MSA Models the next week. It was right around the time I turned a corner with embracing my curves. And I wanted to be the curvy role model I didn't have growing up.
What are your goals for the next five years?
I hope to continue working in the fashion industry and be there as new ground is broken in the plus world. I'd like to sign with a larger agency and continue to learn and grow as a model. I want to be known as a model. Not a plus model. Right now plus is size 8 and up. they're trying to make it size 6 and up. Which means the straight sizes are 0,2 and 4. I hope that within the next 5 years there are no straight size and plus size models. Just models. I'd also like to like to work with young girls on body image. Whether its going to schools, camps, holding workshops. I was lucky enough to have parents who told me I was beautiful and instilled a positive body image. Even with that I didn't have a curvy role model to help me through insecurities. So I'd like start with girls at an early enough age that they realize their value, that its okay if they don't look like their skinny friends, and to rock what you have. There is no one size that's healthy or beautiful. You Are Enough. That's my mission!
What would you say to your younger self?
Don't spend time worrying about what other people think, or comparing yourself to anyone else. Don't ever be embarrassed about your shape.Your curves are beautiful and you don't need to change them for anyone.YOU ARE ENOUGH.
